I like the historical slice of life that can be extracted from the pages of the Bible, reflecting a time far different than our own. Its not unlikely that similar disputes happened frequently between the people of the bronze age, with strange rituals like stealing idols (probably to prevent the other party from divining their location) and building stone heaps to signify contracts and invoke the presence of the gods (Jacob himself does it when he dreams the heavenly ladder).
